Turtles on Boa Vista: season and guided evening tours
Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read
Boa Vista is one of Cabo Verde’s most important loggerhead nesting islands. Nesting generally runs from June into October. Authorised tourist observations are limited to part of that season and to licensed guides, and the permitted dates can differ by beach. Always check the current dates and licence before booking.
Why a guide matters
A nesting beach is not an ordinary night walk. Light, noise and people blocking the route to the sea can disturb turtles, while footsteps can damage hidden nests. Visitors should avoid nesting beaches alone at night and use government-certified guides.
Responsible behaviour
Wear dark clothes, switch off lights and flash, remain quiet and follow the guide. Never touch a turtle or follow it to the water. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, and a responsible guide may end a visit without approaching an animal.
Our choice
The linked trip is a daytime island and wildlife route, not a promise of nesting observation. For an evening tour, verify certification directly.
