Diving on Boa Vista: what to check before choosing a centre
Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read
Boa Vista’s official tourism site lists scuba diving among the activities based in Sal Rei. That does not make every boat trip a dive trip: the current GetYourGuide selection is mostly snorkelling outings, plus one beginners’ scuba introduction (€110 per person) whose listing names neither the dive centre nor the site, so confirm both before booking. Book certification dives and equipment directly with a recognised dive centre, and do not assume a snorkelling ticket can be upgraded at the harbour.
The questions that matter
Tell the centre your certification, logged experience and last dive honestly. Ask which site is planned, the maximum depth, group size, guide ratio, equipment included and cancellation policy. Atlantic wind and swell can move a departure or change the site; a responsible operator may cancel rather than force the advertised route.
Beginners need a clearly described introductory programme and direct supervision. Certified divers should confirm whether proof of qualification and a recent medical declaration are required. Health questions belong with the centre and an appropriate doctor, not a travel article.
If you only want to see underwater life
Snorkelling is the simpler alternative. Trips in Sal Rei Bay and around Djeu use different reefs and require less equipment, but swimming ability, life jackets and water entry still need checking. The current boat-trip selection starts at €35; that figure is not a scuba-diving price.
