Boa Vista jeep island tour: which route is worth it?
Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read
A jeep island tour is the simplest way to connect Boa Vista’s scattered landscapes. Full-day routes usually combine the Viana Desert and Cabo Santa Maria shipwreck in the north with villages, Varandinha Cave and Santa Monica Beach in the south. That breadth is their strength; it also makes the day long, dusty and bumpy.
Full day or half day?
Choose a full day if this is your only island excursion. A shorter northern route suits travellers focused on dunes and the shipwreck; a southern route leaves more time for beaches and caves. Compare time at each stop, lunch and pickup, not merely the number of names in the itinerary.
What the road is like
Much of the route uses sand and corrugated tracks. Expect wind and repeated climbing into the vehicle. Open rear seats are exciting but unsuitable for some people with back problems or limited mobility. Confirm the vehicle and access with the operator.
Our choice
For most first-time visitors, this broad full-day excursion is the best match.
